Building Confidence In Your Dog (Touch Points)

This is one of the most important but yet one of the most underrated aspects of dog training. confidence in dogs is as equally important as confidence in people. People with very low confidence are rarely successful, engaging, or social, the same can be said for dogs.

The key to building confidence is Desensitization. Yes, desensitization. Nothing more than getting used to things. You pup is young now but when they are 80,90,100 lbs

There are 3 desensitizing drills you should work with your dog and these should be consistently over long term. Today we are going to do body des or “touch points”

  1. Body desensitizing (touch points)

11 key points

1-2: Left Ear and Right Ear
3: Muzzle (open the mouth, check teeth, grab muzzle, etc)
4-7: All 4 paws and nails
8: Neck (collar area)
9: Tail
10. Hugging the dog
11. Brushing the dog

Takes 20-30 sec. Touch/rub the area and praise and/or give treat.
This will prevent collar aggression, feet sensitivity, etc..
